Close-Up of a Shingleback Lizard, Hawker

When you're trying to blend in but an ant gives away your hiding spot!

While exploring the rugged terrain near Hawker in the Flinders Ranges, I encountered a Shingleback Lizard basking on a sunlit rock. Its rough, overlapping scales gleamed in shades of brown and grey. The lizard's broad head and blunt snout gave it a prehistoric appearance, while its small dark eyes seemed to be taking in every detail of its surroundings. Short and sturdy limbs with clawed toes gripped the rock firmly. An ant crawling nearby provided a stark contrast in size and added a touch of life to the scene. This encounter was a reminder of the intricate beauty and resilience found in even the smallest corners of nature.
