Shingleback Lizard on Gravel Path, Victor Harbor

When you're camouflaged but still the center of attention!

Victor Harbor continues to reveal its natural wonders with every step. Today I found myself face-to-face with a shingleback lizard resting on a gravel path. Its robust body was covered in rough textured scales that shifted from dark brown to yellowish-green creating a mosaic of colors. The broad triangular head with small dark eyes and a blunt snout gave it an almost prehistoric appearance. Its short sturdy legs were positioned close to its body as it lay still blending seamlessly with the gravel path beneath it which consisted of small stones and pebbles in various shades of grey and brown. The bright sunlight highlighted the intricate textures and colors of the lizard's scales making it stand out against the muted background. It was a moment where nature's simplicity offered a glimpse into its intricate beauty.
