Marmot in the Asulkan Valley, Asulkan Valley Trail

Why did the marmot sit on the rock? To get a better view of all the hikers wondering what it's up to!

Just when I thought the Asulkan Valley Trail had given me all its surprises, I stumbled upon this little guy. A marmot, looking like it just finished a spa day, peeked out from between the rocks. It was as if it was surveying its kingdom, probably wondering why these two-legged creatures (us, humans) were so fascinated by its presence. The rocks around it were a study in rugged beauty, with patches of moss adding a touch of green to the otherwise gray landscape. A fallen tree branch lay in the background, blending seamlessly into the rocky terrain.

The marmot seemed to capture the essence of the valley—wild, untamed, and full of surprises. Its fur, slightly damp, hinted at the recent rains or perhaps a nearby stream. And there it was, in its natural habitat, completely at ease, while we, the intruders, stood there in awe. It's moments like these that make you appreciate the small wonders of nature. I mean, if a marmot can look this content just sitting on a rock, maybe we all need to rethink our life choices.

The surrounding rocks, with their rugged texture and patches of moss, felt like nature's own art installation. Every detail, from the smallest tuft of grass to the largest boulder, seemed meticulously placed. It's as if the valley was saying, 'Look at what I've created, and marvel at it.' And marvel we did. If only I could bottle this tranquility and take it home. Maybe start a new business: 'Bottled Bliss, straight from the Asulkan Valley.' Yeah, that has a nice ring to it.
