Event Longest Journey Started the day walking in Flamengo Park. It was murderously hot. No cloud, yet the sky is misty. In Gloria, I found the memorial for President Getulio Vargas. It is underground and looks deserted, creepy. There was a park with a beautiful European fountain. Too hot. Stopped at a Marinha Monument, where there is a tiny museum, providing much needed air con. At noon, I strolled in MAM - Modern art museum, where there are some favela arts... some are quite notable. 12:40pm I caught a taxi to Espazo Cultural Marinha, hoping to be on time for the 1:00pm Ilha Fiscal tour, but it was too late. But I was just on time for a Capoeira Demonstration. 2:10pm, I finally got my much anticipated Ilha Fiscal tour. The guide was very friendly, though the tour is in Portuguese; she gave me an English manual. It was the place of the last ball of the Empire of Brazil, also my last tour in Brazil. I took the Metro back to Catete, enjoyed my last lunch at Catete Grill. Returned to my hotel, got my luggage, took a taxi to airport, ending my 7 week journey.
