boarding and blading

I purchased this game the day it came out. The graphics are near-perfect, and the gameplay is unreal. There is a massive variety of tricks ranging from backflips to filet o' stalefishes.
If you are not a quick trick learner, there is a TRICK TUTOURIAL mode, where you pick a trick from the trick book, then see the controls used to execute the trick, and then you can even see the trick demonstrated or try it for yourself. There are two other modes: where you can practice by yourslef. Then there is a friendly race. And there is also a WORLD CICUIT, where you race against a certain number of computer players and try to medal to advance to the next race. If you do well in the races you will inluck new snowboards and levels. You will also be able to add status points(you can build up your balence, speed, and jump). You unlock levels around the world and eventually a UNTRACKED level, where there is no trails, but just fresh powder. Then there is SHOWOFF mode where you try to get a high trick score in order to advance. After pulling off a few major tricks in a row, UBER tricks will be available. There tricks you just have to see for yourself. The riders take the board off of their feet and do crazy thing! Please buy this game!

and that is, an over the top snowboarding funfest!

I'm not sure why people want to bash Tricky for not being realistic... Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 isn't either yet it's getting rave reviews. They are both extreme game remakes that stretch the possiblities and physics of their sports.

Tricky may have been designed for the PS2, but the GCN port isn't bad at all. I haven't experienced the slow framerate that I've read about and I haven't had issues with the controls that I've also read about. The latter leads me to believe that the reviewers saying the controls are sketchy are just more comfortable with the PS2 controller. However, it did freeze up on me once. Hmmm...

On to the game:

Tricky looks amazing! From the riders to the environments, everything is top notch. And the levels are huge with many different options for getting down the mountain. I've found numerous shortcuts after thinking I was lost and out of contention - so don't give up until it's officially over. The soundtrack is also full of great music and realistic snowboarding sounds (that ice scraping is dead on perfect).

The handles come within minutes of starting the first race and there is a trick book to guide you thru the actual buttons and combos needed to pull them off. There's a turbo boost to help you catch up if you need to and then there's the coveted "tricky." Boost your tricky meter to the top by performing lesser tricks and combos. Once you get "tricky" you have 20 seconds to pull off one of your rider's special moves. They aren't realistic, but they still look great! You can also make friends and enemies throughout the course of the world circuit and you have the ability to take people out with knockdowns which gives it a little "Mario Kart" feel too. There's just a lot going on here!

As I said before, it isn't realistic, but it is extremely fun. Tricky lets you do what isn't possible on the mountain and come away injury free. And as long as you aren't looking for a realistic snowboarding game, then you'll love this. It's like 1080 on steroids!

I recently started playing SSXT on the Game Cube and absolutely loved it! The Graphics are outstanding, the characters are crazy, and the tracks are intense! Although my fave character is Kaori Nishadaki, I also like to play Elise Barns and Psymon Starks. (Talk about Crazy!) So I'd say two thumbs up, this game is a must for any age, gender, system, anything!
