PRO's
- The Matchup Stick allows you to pick up on the talent of the defensive and offensive players. This allows for big gains and helps you to avoid those players that are hot.
- Home Field Advantage allows the top 25 football stadiums to gain much momentum in the game. For example, The Swamp starts out at the top in 2005 and beating the Florida Gators in Ben Hill will be tough. The crowd literally makes your placers nervous and even shakes your controller.
- Coaching now allows for you to pick your style offense such as the spread offense. I enjoy a heavy passing, spread offense (Texas Tech, Florida, Marshall, Clemson). You also can pick a different defense this year.
- Recruiting is much more detailed and takes longer. You can now begin a pipeline from states for talent on your team. Also athletes have been added meaning you can place them wherever you need them. Recruiting has become more balanced so that one team will not dominate in recruiting.
- Make A Poster/Sign. This is not great but gives some fun to the crowd as they flash your name or your own thoughts like I put, "Hey Clemsucks Fans!"
CON'S
- The Graphics need some improvement. Although still sharp, EA could do some work on the stadiums and some of the cut scenes. Certainly 2005 is much better than old PS1 editions.
- Still needs some AI improvement. Being an old fan of EA NCAA Football titles, I jumped right in and knew how to beat the computer. I would like to see some better AI talent. Online play is tougher by far.
- Allow playoffs. I don't like the current bowl system and would like to see EA allow the fan to the choice of bowls versus playoffs. Older PS1 editions allowed playoffs. I would like to see this again. How NCAA Division 1 needs a playoff system so come on EA give us our own choice in the matter.
- Unrealistic scores when simulated. The 2004 edition seemed to correct this but the 2005 edition has Florida State beating Duke 70-0. While this could very well happen, it is not likely. Another example is Memphis beating Ole Miss 45-42. This is typical of simulated scores. While NCAA is all about offense, put in the second strings when the scores become out of reach.
- Dumb things like mascot games. Who cares if Cocky beats Uga? I don't! I don't play the mascots. It is pointless and unrealistic.
- One final thought is I would like to see EA add assistant coaches as our choice much like Madden does. Let us build our own staff and allow our staff to move on, be fired, or promoted. This would make NCAA 2005 seem even more realistic.
