This movie is not a very veiled or too smart satire about lawyers, and it has several cheesy puns and action turns to spare, but it has a great look, several sexy scenes, like under-the-table shenenigans in the flamenco club and plenty of dark humor. The art direction is a level above the usual artsy horror fare, there are several great shots of architectural wonders of New York, and the final apocalyptic showdown has great special effects. Naturally, Pacino diabolical fervor overshadows his co-stars, but there are good turns from Keanu Reeves, in a role that was tailor made for him, and Charlize Theron and Connie Nielsen who ham it up and look great while at it. If you like to play with the devil, or have a love-hate relationship with lawyers, and want to spend enjoyable two hours in front of TV, you should give this Advocate a try. There are no interesting extras on this DVD, other than somewhat irritating deleted scenes, but Pacino's tour de force, bad-to-the-bone-and-loving-it performance alone is well worth it.
