Page 6 / 10 Edna paused again to look at the bat. There were no tears in her eyes; probably tears were too shallow to express her sorrow. "He swung the baseball bat on her head. Once. Twice. Thrice. Red on the carpet, the birthday cake and our faces. He stared at us with his soulless eyes. I was completely stunned. Holding the bat, he approached us and swung the bat at me. But Elsa dragged me away before the strike. She pulled me to our room and hid me under my bed. Only my father got her before she had time to hide herself. He hauled her out from our room. Then I heard a scream and the sound of a gunshot. I was hiding under my bed-- the only place in the world I knew was safe." There was a long silence. Then, there was another long silence. And then another long silence after the last one. Eventually Edna was bored with the silence, so she switched back to her innocent happy-girl look. Doctor Sabisco seemed to have already known the ending and was unmoved by it. He was staring at the mutants in the center of her room. The mutants were finished with the thing they had been fiddling with. They had in fact built a small bonfire there and then put a giant tea pot over it. "What are they doing?" Edna asked. "They are making tea," Doctor Sabisco said. "Oh, I see. What kind of tea?" "It's called Edna's tea." "How sweet, it's named after me," she said, but subconsciously she felt it wasn't a good name. "So, what will you add in the teapot?" "A sweet beautiful girl," Doctor Sabisco said with a malevolent smile. "Er... I thought you said you weren't a savage," Edna muttered, a bad feeling in her heart. "I said I wouldn't eat the flesh from a dead body," he said with a preaching voice. "Just like a civilized person won't enjoy a musty sashimi. But a fresh human body is just fine for me, especially the one from a sweet beautiful girl." "Don't you think it's a bit cruel to a sweet beautiful girl? Only a monster would do that, I am sure you don't mean it..."
