Page 8 / 10 She waited until she thought the monsters had left. Then she boldly crawled out beneath her bed and looked around. Nothing. From inside, she tried to open the bleached door through which the monsters had left. Oddly, it was locked. She tried again. Oddly, it was unlocked. She opened the door and saw the huge Doctor Sabisco and the mutants all hiding perfectly behind the relatively small bleached door. "So," said Doctor Sabisco, "you've finally decided to have tea, I mean, be tea, with us?" She hoped she could be a lizard that could cut off its tail in times of danger to diverge the attention of its predators. It was rather disappointed that she didn't have a tail but then she thought she could as well sacrifice one of her legs, which hopefully would accomplish the same effect. But her legs didn't like the idea so they started running. And her body followed. She straddled the crumbling walls like a gold-medal Olympic athlete. The monsters followed. She left a trail of dust behind her for the monsters to enjoy. The monsters were quite busy eating the dust and weren't able to catch her. She kept running even after she was sure the monsters had been left far behind. She didn't know how far she had run because everywhere looked the same. Ruin after ruin. Crumbling walls after crumbling walls. She ran until her breath escaped her. Then she stopped. She saw the ruins of a room surrounded by some crumbling walls. There was a bed and a bleached door, on which was a small circular window. But there were no monsters. She walked into the room. She tried to open the bleached door from inside. Oddly, it was locked. Cleverly, she didn't try again. She looked at the bed. It looked exactly like her own, except for a minor difference. A small frog crouched at the center of the bed. It looked like a lovable frog, one that every girl in the neighborhoods would love to own. Edna held the frog in her palms. It shook like a newborn baby. She kissed it on its forehead, but it didn't turn into a handsome prince. Instead, it turned out to be a giant slug-like monster brandishing a baseball bat. She hoped she would suddenly wake up and find everything had been a dream. But her subconscious mind told her it definitely wasn't going to happen. But at the same time, it also assured her she would be perfectly safe. She wanted to know how, but discovered the baseball bat was moving to strike her head. Just a millisecond before the point of contact, she heard someone calling her name.
